January 2020

Happy new year everyone. I hope you had a good 2019 and you fulfilled all you ambitions. I had a good year with completing an RRTY and a Super Randonneur series.

This was a very time consuming year for me I will have to be more selective in 2020. The kids are getting a little older now so weekends and taken up running them to Rugby and Soccer matches. My wee girl and many of her cousin’s have their communion this year so May is a complete wipeout.

So I’ve decide to do some running this year as training time is much less. Don’t worry, I’m still planning some great cycles but I’ll be mixing it with a few running and even an adventure race.

Over Christmas my wife and I sat and discussed the year ahead. We planned all the important thing so I could see which events I could fit in. It’s a great way to let your spouse know what your plans are for the year.

I find this a great way to avoid friction in the future “not considering the family”. The thing is, endurance sports can be selfish. You spend a lot of time away from the family all by yourself. Unless you partner is into endurance they just wont get why you do what you do. So we have to go out of our way to let them know that they are important too. At least that’s what I think.

So I have my events picked for this year. Check them out below and get planning your own events for 2020.

04/04/20 – Bray cliff run 10km (which I intend to cycle to)

26/06/20 – Gealforce west

11/07/20 – Mayo offroad audax 200km

08/08/20 – Kippure 10km run (which I intend to cycle to)

24/08/20 – phycle 24. A 24hour mountain bike race

26/09/20 – Eco Marathon

10/10/20 – Howth summit 10km (which I intend to cycle to)
