2020 just keeps going on and on. I can only hope that next year will see a return to some sort of normality. In my last personal post I gave you my plan of riding the RAI ultra challenge.
Since then, I made an earnest start of doing long rides and even started running to help me lose weight faster.
After a while I decided to do more running than cycling in an effort to lose more weight. The only downside to this was that I ended up eating more. The running was taking a lot out of me and I justified that I could eat more and still lose weight.
With all this running I also lost the enjoyment I get from cycling. To cut a long story short, I burnt out and weighed even more than when I started.
So I needed a new plan. I had to begin again. This time, instead of planning mad training plans that I could never stick to I decided to get some professional help.
I hired a Cycling Coach. One that specializes in long distance cycling. His name is Niel Copeland from Turn Cycling. I have been following him on social for a while before so I knew he “walked the walk”.
I’m only in my second week of training but just having someone to be accountable to has given me the motivation I need to ,one; do the training and, two; say no to that second piece of cake.
I’m aware that its early days and the training load will increase, but I really think this was a great move. Only time will tell.
So the target is still the same. The Race Around Ireland Ultra Challenge. I will still wait until after xmas before I make the final decision but it’s great to have someone that knows what they are doing to help me get what I want.
I can’t wait for next year to come.
