Lots of km’s

So last Saturday, the 21st of April, I did the Iron Mountains 300. The legs felt ok after that. I was just generally tired for a day or two after it.

I would have loved to have went for a short cycle on the day after it but just to see how the legs felt. However, I decided not to test my wifes patience any more so I got up with the kids to give her a bit of a sleep in. The least I could do.

Back to racing

Tuesday seen the start of the local mtb league. I couldn’t resist. I find mountain bike racing to be much less serious than the road league. Everyone is there just to have a bit of fun.

My legs felt like lead from doing the 300 and the rain was hammering down but I still enjoyed every minute of it.

These races don’t last very long but they are at near or at maximum effort so it really is good training.

Long one of the week

I managed to work in overtime during the week at work so I didn’t have to go in Friday. Kids at school, Wife at work, Cycle time.

I did 190km. I went up through Newry, Rathfriland, Katesbridge, Ballynahinch. Really hilly around these parts as you pass the Mourne Mountains.

From there it was mostly downhill to Strangford. from here I hugged the coast all the way back to the Mournes, through Newcastle and on to Kilkeel where I got the ferry back over the Carlingford.

Mourne Mountains

I love spins like that. when you go places where you haven’t been before. The views were unreal and I was again really lucky with the weather.

During the ride I felt slow. I put this down to being still tired from the Iron Mountains however when I looked at some of my local segments on strava I found that I was among the fastest I have been yet….Progess!

One more for the road

I had planned a 100km cycle Sunday morning. However, it was going to be a nice day so we had planned a family day out. So I got up early and was on the bike by 06:00 and made it home 08:30 with 61kms done. They were just out of bed so I was still able to have breakfast with them. I love that.

So over 600km done in 8 days. I’m happy with that. Next week I’m on late shift I’ll use it as a recovery week.
